June 21 and 28
‘Summertime Fun for Kids’ activities

The Sioux City Lewis & Clark Interpretive Center hands-on learning series offers 45-minute sessions at 10 and at 11 a.m. each Wednesday in June. Admission and materials will be free.

Pre-school through middle-school kids may participate.

“Campfire Stories” activities are planned for kids third grade and younger. They’ll learn about exploration readiness and earn “expedition equipment” for their free Explorer totes. Older kids may participate in “Junior Explorer” activities. Here’s the program line-up:

Campfire Stories (10:00 a.m.)
June 28: “The Legend of Paul Bunyan,” - enjoy the legendary lumberjack’s story followed by “flapjack-throwing” to earn an Explorer’s disc.

Junior Explorers (11:00 a.m.)
June 28: “Expedition Boot Camp,” - Compete in L&C-inspired boot camp events including relay and water games.

“Each session will be packed with hands-on fun. Kids will pull on their ‘explorer boots’ and learn what it took to be on the Lewis & Clark Expedition,” says Sara Olson, the Center’s History Education Curator.
