‘Summertime Fun for Kids’ activities

The Sioux City Lewis & Clark Interpretive Center hands-on learning series offers 45-minute sessions at 10 and at 11 a.m. each Wednesday in July. Admission and materials will be free.

Pre-school through middle-school kids may participate.

 “Campfire Stories” activities are planned for kids third grade and younger. They’ll learn about exploration readiness and earn “expedition equipment” for their free Explorer totes. Older kids may participate in “Junior Explorer” activities. Here’s the program line-up:

Campfire Stories (10:00 a.m.)
July 26: “Seaman the Dog’s Journey” - Meet the expedition’s furriest member, then grab a “dog’s tail” and play “Capture the Tail.

Junior Explorers (11:00 a.m.)
July 26: “Christmas in July” - Explore the Corps of Discovery’s holiday celebrations, then whip up a batch of ice cream, a treat President Thomas Jefferson often served at the White House.

“Each session will be packed with hands-on fun. Kids will pull on their ‘explorer boots’ and learn what it took to be on the Lewis & Clark Expedition,” says Sara Olson, the Center’s History Education Curator.
