If you can tie a knot\, then you can macrame.  By the end of the two classes\, you will have made a beautiful creation to hang proudly in your home or to use as a gift. Supplies are provided at the first class; fee is $10 for association members and $15 for non-members. Registration is a requirement for participation in the two classes. You can register by phone\, in person\, or by mail. When registering\, please give your name\, address\, phone number\, and email. \nWe encourage anyone to attend but moms with young children are specifically invited because the Center has arranged for the children to be entertained in a nearby room. Admission is free\, but freewill donations are encouraged. \nBarbara Clifton Gross has worked as a radio disc jockey\, a TV reporter and anchor\, an advertising copywriter and brand manager\, the owner/operator of a B&B on the California coast\, a bookseller\, a librarian\, and a foster mom for rescue dogs. \nThroughout her varied career\, she has been writing fiction. Her short fiction and poetry have been published in The Briar Cliff Review and Big Muddy: A Journal of the Mississippi River Valley. Nine Lives of Pshrr is her second novel. SUMMARY:Ornament Decorating at the Lewis and Clark Interpretive Center
DESCRIPTION:The Lewis and Clark Interpretive Center will host a free “Deck the Center: Holiday Ornament Decorating” from November 18 through December 22 during normal business hours. \nChildren are asked to stop in to decorate two wooden ornaments\, one to hang on the Center’s community tree and one to take home. Everyone is welcome to celebrate the start of the holiday season with us. \nCaptains Lewis and Clark and their men would have been unfamiliar with the tradition of hanging ornaments from evergreen trees. Christmas trees and decoration wouldn’t become popular in the United States until the mid-1800s. The Captains usually celebrated the holiday with a discharge of firearms\, singing and dancing\, small gifts exchange\, and “the best to eat that could be had” (according to Sgt. We will visit many wineries along the way. Finally\, through a guided tasting of several Napa wines\, we will learn about the different types of wine from the valley. The class is from 10:00am-11:30am at the Betty Strong Encounter Center. \nThe cost is $10 for association members and $15 for non-members. Registration is a requirement for participation in the two classes. You can register by phone\, in person\, or by mail. When registering\, please give your name\, address\, phone number\, and email. \nWe encourage anyone to attend but moms with young children are specifically invited because the Center has arranged for the children to be entertained in a nearby room. At MiMi’s Music Place they will be learning nursery rhymes\, poems\, and simple movements and play rhythm instruments to express themselves through music and sound. At this time\, we are unable to care for children who are wearing diapers. Grandma or another trusted adult are welcome to come along with the children. \nThe Lewis and Clark Interpretive Center/Betty Strong Encounter Center was built and is sustained by the Missouri River Historic Development Organization as a gift of history to the community.
