March 7 at 12:30 pm - 1:30 pm

On Saturday, March 7, 2026, come learn how Lewis and Clark found their way across the country without the aid of road signs or navigation apps. The class is held at 12:30pm for grades 5-8. Admission is free, but freewill donations encouraged.

Participants will learn some basics of compass usage, map reading, and about “dead reckoning,” a method of navigation relying on estimating one’s current track, groundspeed and position based on earlier known positions.

The Lewis and Clark Interpretive Center/Betty Strong Encounter Center was built and is sustained by the Missouri River Historic Development Organization as a gift of history to the community. For more information call 712-224-5242. Find the Center at www.siouxcitylcic.com or www.facebook.com/sclandc
