For our younger guests
A little of this; a little of that
A place to belong
All throughout our facilities, children will find spaces tailor-made for them to enjoy, including games, animatronics, the keelboat theatre, a classroom for our free educational offerings and as pictured here, a special Kids’ Corner. Seeing our younger guests happy and engaged is one of the most satisfying aspects of our staff members’ jobs.
Programming choices that offer something great for all ages
In 2024, we’re introducing more opportunities for youth of all ages to participate in the Center’s offerings. Click on the links below for program details, class/activity schedules and online registration.
- Percy’s Pals (Grades K-2 and 3-5): Students will be split into two groups, and each group will meet once a month to go on scientific adventures inspired by the Lewis and Clark Expedition. The Center’s adorable scrap metal sculpture Percy the Pelican sponsors this program.
- Growers’ Academy and Community Garden (Grades 4-7): This program will allow area students to learn the skills required to prepare, plant and care for a garden that will provide free produce to the community. At the end of the growing season, students and representatives from funding partner CF Industries will celebrate with a graduation ceremony and picnic.
- Lewis and Clark Kids’ Club (Grades 6-8): Lewis and Clark Kids’ Club is a youth travel club for Middle School students. The Center will provide supervision and transportation for a series of out-of-town adventures designed to enhance students’ cultural awareness and encourage a love of the humanities.
- Young Historians (Grades 9-12): This series will teach the science of historiography and develop students’ understanding of public history. Students will engage in researching, writing, and presenting history using the latest trends in historiographic methods. Students may earn a chance to present their work in Washington, D.C.!
- Family Camp (All Ages): The Lewis and Clark Interpretive Center will periodically host Family Camp events, where families can engage in some fun and educational activities together. We encourage those attending to include their extended families, as well! Activities may include game nights, ice cream socials, camp outs, or nature walks.
