Volunteer at the Center

Whether or not you are able to donate toward the Center, you can help us achieve our mission by volunteering. Volunteers work from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM no more than four days a month during our periods of heaviest tour and visitor activity from April through August. Please follow the steps below to get the ball rolling:

Theresa will guide you through the process of completing the application form and gaining approval from our Executive Director.
Volunteers do need to be 18 years old or older. School seniors working on volunteer hours should call to discuss volunteering.

Duties and Expectations

Here’s what we ask of our volunteers:

Sit at the Welcome Desk so you’re visible to guests and able to greet them as they enter our facilities.
Record guest numbers on the visitor log and clicker.
Provide an overview of the Centers (we’ll help you with crib notes.)
Answer visitor questions or direct guests to others who can.
Answer the phone if staff members are busy. Request callers to hold.
Perform minor cleaning tasks, especially cleaning door glass and generally maintaining a clean, orderly atmosphere.
During down time, you may read, use your personal computer, or otherwise occupy yourself.

Current Volunteers

The Center is grateful to have several dedicated volunteers currently helping us achieve our mission, starting with Judy and Gary Golden, who joined the Center through a partnership with AARP Foundation’s Senior Community Service Employment Program.

Rolene Beauvais is a great volunteer. She was the first to sign up for multiple months! She does a fabulous job of telling our visitors what to expect when they come into the Center.
Rich Pope is a definite extrovert. He loves chatting with people. He is very knowledgeable about not only Lewis and Clark, but also the Loess Hills.
Carolyn Ellwanger is a retired teacher who now spends most of her time with her grandchildren and playing on a pickleball team. Yet she still finds time to serve on local boards and volunteer here at the Center.
Joanne and Dean Fox are a husband-and-wife volunteer team. Joanne is exceptionally outgoing; we can always rely on her to step in to introduce Sunday speakers or to do whatever we ask. Dean enjoys visiting with our guests.
