The Center is celebrating the work of young local artists with a new exhibit. The East High School Student Art Exhibit, featuring 22 student art pieces from East High’s 2D art courses opened on April 16 in the Betty Strong Encounter Center. Guests are encouraged to view the artwork at no cost during the Center’s normal business hours.
The exhibit’s collection includes samples of the students’ works from four art courses: Art I through Art IV. Students were mentored by their East High teachers James Villim and Jenni Widrowicz.
“The students have shown amazing talent,” says Widrowicz. “In the beginning courses, the students learn different drawing techniques and about eras of art history. Then, once they reach Art IV, students take what they have learned in the previous three years of exploring different art concepts to create works that interest and challenge them.”
This is the first of many installations of student artwork that the Center will feature, with plans for exhibits of artwork from regional elementary, middle, and high schools.
“We are very excited by the feedback we have received from local teachers,” says Sara Olson, the Center’s Assistant Director. “The exhibit will change quarterly so that we can promote all the wonderful local talents of the students. From elementary to high school, this is a wonderful opportunity for students to have their artwork on public display.”
