Floyd Monument
The Sergeant Floyd Monument is a landmark on the Missouri River at Floyd’s Bluff at 2601 South Lewis Boulevard in Sioux City. The monument honors Charles Floyd, a member of the Lewis and Clark Expedition, who died on the upstream voyage in 1804 and was buried here.
Floyd River Campsite
The Floyd River Commemorative Campsite’s historical marker is placed where the Lewis and Clark Expedition is believed to have camped the evening after the death of Sgt. Charles Floyd. Located a mile east of the Lewis and Clark Interpretive Center on Larsen Park Road.
The site is marked by a 7′ x 7′ boulder painted by artist Ray “Bubba” Sorenson. The boulder has four semi-flat sides, each depicting a different scene from the Expedition’s trip through what would become Sioux City, a leg of the journey most significantly marked by the death of Sgt. Charles Floyd.
The rock was dedicated in May 2023 following four years of funding efforts and coordination by Dan Whitlock, a dedicated member of the Sgt Floyd Tri-State Chapter of the Lewis and Clark Trail Alliance.
