The 30-member New Horizon’s Band of Sioux City began more than 10 years ago with six members. It is one of more than 200 U.S. programs in the New Horizon’s International Music Association, which originated in 1991 at the Eastman School of Music, Rochester, NY. The Association’s sole purpose is to provide musical opportunities for adults.

Bill Foley Quartet-Have you ever been listening to a song that you haven’t heard in a while and it took you back to a life experience – the song your mom used to sing to you in the car, a first boyfriend or girlfriend, your first kiss, the first time your heart was broken, a fun time with your friends, Bill and his band perform the best music of the 50’s, 60’s and 70’s, including early rock and roll favorites.

Starr Chief Eagle, a hoop dance extraordinaire, shares the teachings and culture of the Lakota people through language dance and song for all the future generations, all over the world. She involves her audiences with interactional games that involve teaching hoop tricks, quizzing on Lakota language, and other educational exercises that bring fun into learning. She ends her show by sharing her 21 years of experience hoop dancing, which involves herself dancing with 21 hoops.

Collin O’Connor and friends-After working professionally in NYC for 10 years, Collin O’Connor moved to Kansas City to be closer to family. He studied improv at Second City, Shakespeare at Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre in London, and holds a BFA in Musical Theatre from Millikin University. He’s also appeared in the hit musicals Jersey Boys and Mamma Mia!

For all ages. Come enjoy traditional rhythms and dances from Guinea West Africa with Duniya Drum and Dance. Learn about the djembe and doundoun drums while company members perform energetic dances in colorful costumes. Then, join in with call and response rhythm and songs as well as learning traditional movements to live music.

Prairie Winds Jazz ensemble will bring back the sound of the big band era with a concert. The multi-piece band featuring musicians from across northwest Iowa will play a mix of big band classics from the 1930s, 40s and 50s.
Saturday August 23

A play to celebrate the 200th birthday of the national anthem, “We Will Rise Again,” will be performed at the Lewis and Clark Spirit of Discovery Stage. The musical, written by Dianna Spirk of Dakota City, Nebraska.
