We had another wonderful show last Sunday afternoon, July 22 in the Betty Strong Encounter Center auditorium. Dan Holtz and Gary Zalud entertained an audience of close to seventy people with their fascinating stories and music from Nebraska and Great Plains history.

The pair plays an assortment of acoustic instruments. They have been collaborating for many years and we always enjoy when they return to our stage.

Living in Vermillion SD in the late 70s and early 80s, I knew there was a place called Spirit Mound that was a little way out of town.  However, I did not know why it had that name. I do not remember my teachers talking about the history of the place.  When my family first moved there, the area was empty land. My brothers tell stories of sliding down the hill on old truck hoods.
