The Center announces a packed schedule of events happening on its campus the week of July 10.
Here is what’s happening this week:
- Tuesday, July 11: The Center presents its first “Tuesdays for You” series event. During this experimental series, the Center will stay open until 7:00 on Tuesday evenings and offer a member of the community—a business or service organization representative or a subject expert—an opportunity to showcase their goods and services and visit informally with Center guests. This week’s featured guest is Lea Knowles, owner of Hidden Vineyards, a local winery.
- Wednesday, July 12: Exploration Wednesdays continue with a 9:30 class for K-3rd Graders called “Learn About Native Plants” and an 11:00 class for 4th-6th Graders called “President Jefferson’s Cipher.”
- Thursday, July 13: From 1:00 to 4:00, musicians and music appreciators are invited to the Betty Strong Encounter Center’s auditorium for a jam session.
- Saturday, July 15: From 10:00 to noon, 20 Siouxland nonprofits will showcase their fall children’s programming at the Center’s first ever Fantastic Fall (Signup) Fair. Here, parents and grandparents can bring the kids to meet representatives of various organizations, browse the many fall children’s programming options and get kids registered for fall activities at one convenient stop.
- Sunday, July 16: At 2:00 in the Betty Strong Encounter Center auditorium, retired University of Northern Iowa English professor Barbara Lounsberry will share her presentation “Nancy Drew, Iowa Heroine to the World.”
“We think this is the widest variety of quality programming you’ll find in Siouxland,” says Executive Director Tracy Bennett. “The Center is pleased to have the contacts, facilities and know-how to bring so many cultural events to the public free of charge. We invite everyone to pick an event or two and come to our riverfront campus to experience all we have to offer.”
The Center encourages persons interested in helping its staff navigate and diversify its programming choices to join its Navigators—Partners in Programming organization.
