Students will engage in critical thinking regarding the origins of Labor Day in the United States. Together we will discuss the importance of American jobs and professions – and will discuss and consider the labor undertaken by the members of the Corps of Discovery. We will finish class by exploring various 19th Century Euro-American and Native American leisure activities and discuss how relaxation can help us appreciate the importance of labor.
