Event Series Event Series: Percy’s Pals

August 3 at 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm

Free

What makes the Loess Hills, or a mountain? Geology is the scientific study of rocks and minerals which make our landscape. Students will learn about all the rocks, minerals, and fossils found in our area. Together we will learn how to look up the names of particular rocks, study uses for different minerals, and then students will break open their very own geodes to take home!

Students in Percy’s Pals will be divided into two groups, based on school grade. Kindergarten through Second Grade will meet at 1:00 p.m., and Third through Fifth Grades will meet at 2:00 p.m. Each section of students will meet for one hour, once a month to engage in a series of scientific adventures inspired by the Lewis and Clark Expedition. Programs will include topics such as Jefferson’s gadgets, mapmaking, geology, plant and animal classification, and medicine and first aid.
