September 7 at 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm

We all know that Thomas Jefferson was one of the framers of the United States government. Some of us know that he was responsible for sending Lewis and Clark across the North American continent. But you may be surprised to learn just how scientific President Jefferson was – he was constantly making gadgets and conducting experiments. We will learn about President Jefferson’s secret codes and a device he made to crack his codes, which he called a “cipher.” Students will then go on a treasure hunt to earn a special prize by solving various clues using the information they’ve learned during the Percy’s Pals spring/summer series!

Students in Percy’s Pals will be divided into two groups, based on school grade. Kindergarten through Second Grade will meet at 1:00 p.m., and Third through Fifth Grades will meet at 2:00 p.m. Each section of students will meet for one hour, once a month to engage in a series of scientific adventures inspired by the Lewis and Clark Expedition. Programs will include topics such as Jefferson’s gadgets, mapmaking, geology, plant and animal classification, and medicine and first aid.
