June 1 at 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm

Free

Some of the weather we encounter every day would have been more than just surprising to the men of the Lewis and Clark Expedition – it could have been terrifying! Imagine feeling your first day of -40 degree temperature; or the first time you saw a snow drift higher than your tallest friend; or seeing a tornado roaring across the open prairie. Today we know that knowledge is power and knowing how and when severe weather can impact our climate can help quiet our fears. Together we will learn about the climate of the Midwest and the weather which can impact us throughout the year. We will also have several hands-on projects to help us understand how weather happens!

Students in Percy’s Pals will be divided into two groups, based on school grade. Kindergarten through Second Grade will meet at 1:00 p.m., and Third through Fifth Grades will meet at 2:00 p.m. Each section of students will meet for one hour, once a month to engage in a series of scientific adventures inspired by the Lewis and Clark Expedition. Programs will include topics such as Jefferson’s gadgets, mapmaking, geology, plant and animal classification, and medicine and first aid.
