On Saturday, March 16, the Betty Strong Encounter Center side of our complex will be closed for a private event. The Lewis and Clark Interpretive Center side will be open to the public as usual from Noon–5:00pm. This change is only for March 16th.

Rediscovering Spirit Mound
Living in Vermillion SD in the late 70s and early 80s, I knew there was a place called Spirit Mound that was a little way out of town. However, I did not know why it had that name. I do not remember my teachers talking about the history of the place. When my family first moved there, the area was empty land. My brothers tell stories of sliding down the hill on old truck hoods. Mainly in later years we knew it as a farm lot. Mostly high school kids used the area as a spot to go drinking because it was out of town.
Siouxland Community Foundation Grants Center $2,500 for Children’s Programming
The Center has received a $2,500 grant from the Siouxland Community Foundation to support our kids’ Adventure Saturday series, which is in the planning stages.
Interpretive Center Featured on KTIV’s Hometown History Segment
The Lewis and Clark Interpretive Center was recently featured on KTIV’s Hometown History segment. We are very appreciative of the attention and hope that this will inspire new visitors to enjoy our facilities and programs.
“Story Singer” Greg Hager to Perform at Betty Strong Encounter Center
“I sing about my experiences, but since I’m human, there is an element of commonality that everyone identifies with,” says Hager. “I sometimes say that I am a story singer, and everyone loves a great story.”
