The Center welcomes two new special “Events and Exhibits Assistants,” Judy and Gary Golden
Judy and Gary Golden have come to the Center through a partnership with AARP Foundation’s Senior Community Service Employment Program.
The purpose of the AARP program is to match a host agency with community seniors who train and become actively employed while being subsidized by AARP for community service hours. The nonprofit organizations benefit from an expanded workforce that gives them the opportunity to improve their services.
Anita Stroud from AARP contacted the Center about the program. The Center welcomes volunteers and welcomes partnering with other entities. Executive Director Tracy Bennett says, “The benefits of partnerships like this one are numerous. They can bring diverse experiences to our facility and diversifies our staff.”
Judy and Gary Golden are originally from Mapleton. Judy did not work outside the home. Gary owned Golden Auto Sales, a used car business in Sioux City. He also was involved in stock car racing. When the business closed, he went to work at Goodwill. He had some health issues but recovered and was looking for something to do when he visited the AARP offices. The Senior Community Service Employment Program was exactly what he wanted. Judy joined the program with him.
