Tours
In-person or virtual.
“Educating people about historical experiences, people, and cultures that they typically do not encounter is near and dear to my heart. And since we offer all our tours and programming at no charge, we are able to reach people who otherwise may not have this kind of opportunity.”
Requesting Tours
The Center provides guided tours to approximately 3,000 guests each year. Many of these tours come from schools and community organizations, but we also provide tours for any other interested groups in, or traveling through, the area. Please use our Tour Request Form to request a date and time for your tour group. We welcome self-guided tours as well, but ask that you please still use the form to ensure we have the staff and resources available to accommodate you.
UPDATED SCHOOL TOUR POLICIES AND PROCEDURES
Group Size: Group sizes should coincide with classroom size (we recommend approximately 25 students per group). If a larger class, or more than one class will be attending, we will create a rotation schedule so all students can have the same experience. You must provide 2 chaperones for every 25 students.
Tour Timing: Tours will not begin until 9:30 a.m. No tours will be given between 12:15 and 12:45 p.m. The standard tour is 45 minutes per group. Groups requesting 30-minute tours will receive an abbreviated version of the standard tour.
Scheduling: Your tour is not considered booked until you receive a confirmation email from the Education Coordinator. If your group is either early or late on the day of your tour, we will adjust the tour length so we can stay on schedule for other schools. We are not affiliated with the Riverboat Museum. Please book your boat tour with them, directly.
Calendar: Sioux City Fourth Grade classes will be given scheduling priority in the months of September, October, and November to coincide with their Sioux City History unit. Homeschool associations will be given scheduling priority in the months of December, January, and February. All other schools or classes will be given scheduling priority in the months of March, April, and May.
