Jerry Mennenga’s work as a photographer began in earnest in 1982 as he worked for various small to medium-sized newspapers. Mennenga continues his photography work today for various news publications and area clients. He spends most of his time visiting local conservation and nature preserve areas, which ignited a fondness for photographing wildlife and birds. He admits to not being “a par excellent nature or bird photographer,” his enjoyment comes from attempting to capture the “personalities” of his subjects and the curious way they go about their lives. Mennenga posts regularly to a blog he began in 2012 titled “Lost in Siouxland” (lostinsiouxland.com). More of his work can be seen at jerrymennengaphotographer.zenfolio.com. He hopes people enjoy the photographs as a slice of life and moments in time.
Kevin J. Kerr became an active member of the Loess Hills Audubon Society after retiring from his job as a municipal employee. He is a birder who enjoys photographing birds and other wildlife. He appreciates the interactions of his Backyard Birds throughout the seasons and creating a Bird Friendly Habitat. In addition to his interest in birds and other living creatures, Kevin enjoys hiking and traveling.
Jillian Murphy grew up outside of Boulder, Colorado, where she developed a love for art, birding, and all things outdoors. Jillian appreciates the usefulness of art in both science communication and storytelling. She believes photography in particular is helpful for directing an observer’s attention within a scene. With her black-and-white photography, she highlights the shapes and textures of her subjects while displaying the biodiversity of North America.
