The Center has been awarded a $1,000 Local Community Grant from Walmart. Each year, Walmart’s U.S. stores and Sam’s Clubs award local cash grants ranging from $250 to $5,000 to address the unique needs of the communities where it operates.
“We will use these funds to help further our mission to provide free, culturally enriching programming to the public,” says Development Director Lori Tagg Snow. “We especially appreciate the timing of this gift as we offer a summer roster packed with unique, free events for the public.”
Among those events are:
- Our Fantastic Fall (Signup) Fair, during which around 20 local nonprofits will be onsite at the Center to present their fall children’s programming. During this event parents, grandparents and kids can browse the range of programming available to them and register for fall programs in a single morning.
- “Sundays at the Center” every Sunday at 2:00 in our auditorium. These family-oriented presentations are musical, cultural, historical or simply entertaining.
- “Tuesdays for You,” a new event series where we extend our operating hours to 7:00 P.M. and invite businesses to come to the Center to boost their public visibility and highlight their goods and services.
- “Exploration Wednesdays,” our summer children’s programming, which provides free access to fun and educational events and classes through July.
- Events on our new, outdoor Spirit of Discovery Stage, including a dueling pianos performance and a talent search.
“This local support means the world to us,” notes Snow. “We are grateful to Walmart for their commitment to improve the communities in which they operate.”
The IRS recognizes the Center as a 501(c)3 corporation whose operations are funded exclusively by grants and donations. If you’d like to support our mission, there are a variety of ways to do so. Gifts to the Center are tax deductible to the extent allowed by law.
