The Lewis and Clark Interpretive Center Betty Strong Encounter Center (“the Center”) is initiating “What’s on Wednesday (WOW)” programming for both children and adults. The Center will be offering free classes/events from 5:30pm-6:30pm on Wednesdays running February through June.

“We see this as an opportunity to support local businesses, especially the ones new to the area, and to provide something new for people to do in the evening,” stated Tracy Bennett, Executive Director.

No registration is required to attend any of the Wednesday programs. The Classes/Events page of the website provides the program details and dates. Living in Vermillion SD in the late 70s and early 80s, I knew there was a place called Spirit Mound that was a little way out of town.  However, I did not know why it had that name. I do not remember my teachers talking about the history of the place.  When my family first moved there, the area was empty land. My brothers tell stories of sliding down the hill on old truck hoods. Mainly in later years we knew it as a farm lot.  Mostly high school kids used the area as a spot to go drinking because it was out of town.
