FreeThe Center warmly invites the public – and especially retirees and near-retirees – to attend WITCC Lifelong Learning Coordinator Sue Owens’ presentation as part of our Tuesdays for You series.
“After retiring, many people are starting over re-building friendships, daily routines, and finally taking the time to find out what they want to do,” says Owens. “Often spouses pass away, and retirees don’t have a partner to do all the things they were going to do together later in life. Lifelong Learning programs offer people a chance to explore their interests and meet other people in an atmosphere that is welcoming, and encourages people to be curious as they learn more about the people and world around us.”
On the core philosophy of Lifelong Learning Owens notes, “I have read that learning is making sense of the world around us. And since the only constant in the world is change, we need to continue learning to thrive. If people stop growing and learning, they are more likely to become depressed and isolated.
“The opportunity to share builds community and everyone has something to share,” Owens continues. “With Lifelong Learning we share as we craft, cook, bake, make music, take pictures, and travel. Building community is important to me since I have moved several times through the years and realize the importance of relationships to living my best life.”
Owens’ presentation will delve into these concepts and also provide a sneak peek into the Fall Lifelong Learning catalog.
The Institute of Lifelong Learning was established in 1996. Owens’ goal for this appearance is that guests will find some activities that they are interested in joining and discover opportunities to learn and remain physically and mentally healthy.
