Around a dozen artists affiliated with Art SUX Gallery are displaying their work in the main gallery of the Betty Strong Center. Their exhibit, titled The Faces of Art SUX Gallery, will be available for the public to view for free through Oct. 22, 2023.
Art SUX Gallery is owned by Amy Thompson, artist and Siouxland resident. When the Benson Building closed, it left many artists, including Amy, without a studio. She wanted to create a similar space where artists could create and show work in one building. With an emphasis of artists creating on their own, yet having the opportunity to work with or be inspired by other artist’s—a collaborative, strong and supportive community— a welcoming home for art of all types, for all creatives and for the Siouxland community.
Art SUX Gallery became a reality when the first location opened in the Ho Chunk Center. The gallery moved in summer of 2021 to its current location at 515 4th Street, two floors for more artist studios, main gallery, classroom space for Art SUX for Kids and connected to Hardline Coffee Company.
