Event Series Event Series: Sundays at the Center

June 16 at 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm

Free

On Sunday, June 16, 2024, at 2:00 pm, members of the band Tomboy will perform at the Betty Strong Encounter Center. Tomboy is an acoustic band with an eclectic song list. Their music includes olde tyme mountain and fiddle tunes, traditional American folk songs, classic country, gospel, and original songs. Their vocal harmony is stellar when they perform numbers by Alison Krauss, John Prine, Stephen Foster, Old Crow Medicine Show, Chris Stapleton, and more. Even Little Walter would have been comfortable with them. Instruments include upright bass, guitar, mandolin, fiddle, banjo, and harmonica. They come prepared and are looking forward to singing for y’all!

The members of Tomboy (Tom Weisbecker, Jeanne Krebs, Jessica Taylor, and Barbara Sabella) met while playing rhythm for Bill Peterson’s Sargent Creek Stringband. Tom, long-time member of the Stringband, is a skilled multi-instrumentalist and vocalist who has made performing music almost as important as playing golf. Jeanne, vocalist and instrumentalist, has rocked and fronted bands her entire life. In her spare time, she teaches music and writes songs. Jessica was a tag along with her fiddler friend Jason. Now she’s in a band, and Jason plays in her band when she lets him. Most recently, Barbara heard about the Stringband and invited herself to sit in, and she stayed. She’s a skilled vocalist and songwriter who also plays guitar.
