This new exhibit in our main Gallery in the Betty Strong Encounter Center features excellent photography from Jerry Mennenga, Carey Anderson, and Randall Williams. The display will be up until September 22, 2024.
Jerry Mennenga spent many years as a full-time photographer for a local newspaper until layoffs ended his newspaper career. Today he spends most of his time visiting local conservation anand nature preserve areas, which ignited a fondness for photographing wildlife and birds. He admits to not being “a par excellent nature or bird photographer,” his enjoyment comes from attempting to capture the “personalities” of his subjects and the curious way they go about their lives. He hopes people enjoy the photographs as a slice of life and moments in time. Mennenga posts regularly to a blog titled “Lost in Siouxland” (lostinsiouxland.com).
Carey Anderson rekindled his interest in photography after retirement. He and his wife, Cathy, enjoy camping in their travel trailer, so pursuing photo opportunities along the way seemed like a natural fit. He ended up becoming a very avid photographer. He is very appreciative of the guidance and encouragement his mentors have provided. Planning is progressing for a new photography blog to share his images.
Randall Williams began photography as a junior in high school. He obtained a working knowledge of the basics, but felt his work did not significantly progress until joining the Sioux City Camera Club. His photography has been displayed along with other club members at various venues around town. He has been particularly honored to have several of his photographs published in The Briar Cliff Review over the years.
